In the fourth round of the League Cup, Liverpool's rotation lost to Crystal Palace 0-3, with 6 losses in the past 7 games in all competitions. Slaughter said in the post-game conference that there is no problem with using a rotating lineup.
On being disappointed with the results and whether you regret your lineup choices
Losing a game always feels like a blow, especially when you're eliminated from an event. But tonight's lineup selections are consistent with what I made in this round last season. There may be many reasons why we lost 6 out of 7 games, but none of them is enough to make people accept such frequent losses. I can give various reasons, but they are not enough to justify it, because in Liverpool, 6 losses in 7 games is too heavy anyway.
Take our performance against Brentford as an example. That game was played two days after the away game against Frankfurt. I see a team struggling to cope with three games in seven days, and that still doesn't excuse losing. But it would not be completely unexpected to me to see some players having difficulties in pre-season and those players from different leagues facing challenges playing three Premier League and Champions League games in seven days.
Similarly, we will play Villa in 2 days. The last time we sent out players who had adapted to the schedule, Isaac was injured and left the field in Frankfurt; the last time we played against Southampton, Leoni was also injured in a similar game, and Ekitic received two yellow cards and was sent off.
Considering that we currently only have 15-16 first-team players available, and the club wants to get used to using youth training players (non-main players and youth training players) in this event, I think my choice is reasonable. Even after knowing the result, I still haven't changed my mind because even with the full lineup, we didn't win many games against Crystal Palace.
