Things to note after cats undergo sterilization

3 hours after surgery are the high incidence of complications during the surgical period, so it is recommended to stay in the observation room for at least 3 hours to confirm the awakening and stability before leaving the hospital. During the observation period, the anesthesiologist will also formulate corresponding infusion plans based on the animal's condition and pain level, so the observation time must be determined based on the infusion time. Severe cases are recommended for hospitalization observation.

Try not to ask the doctor to get a wake-up injection, because many cats are allergic to wake-up injections, which may take 3-6 hours. After the operation, be sure to keep the cat lying on its side and straighten its neck to ensure smooth breathing.

Just left the operating room, the animal was still in anesthesia and awake, and although it had basic reflexes, it had not fully recovered. Therefore, before fully awakening, do not feed to prevent vomiting or reflux and its possible esophageal corrosive injury or inhalation pneumonia. The time for complete awakening varies depending on the animal and its serious condition, and generally takes 8-10 hours; please determine the special cases according to the doctor's judgment.

During the observation room, pay attention to keeping the respiratory tract unobstructed, allowing him to lie on his back or lie on his side, and his head and neck naturally stretch. At the same time, observe the respiratory state (frequency, degree of ebb and flow of the chest, etc.) and the color of the tongue or mucosa. If there are any abnormalities, please contact your doctor in time.

After surgery and anesthesia, the animal will be in a stressed state, showing symptoms such as trembling, moaning, salivation, etc. Through pain management and owner comfort, the pain can be greatly relieved and stress reduced.

Anestheses and surgery will reduce the temperature of the animal. Please prepare comfortable cushions and blankets to keep it warm. In addition, to prevent contamination of involuntary urination during awakening period, urine pads can be laid on the nest pads. After taking the cat home, do not place the cat on the bed or sofa, but should place it in a nest on the ground or on a cotton pad. If the weather is cold, cover something; because when the anesthetic is about to wake up, the cat will stumble around. If it falls on the high place, it will tear open the wound.
