Newborn kittens rely heavily on their mothers, just like newborn babies. The mother provides warmth and breast milk, and the mother's breast milk in the first three months is very nutritious and can enhance the cat's resistance. But do you know how cats are weaned?
1. Determine the time for weaning
Kittens start to grow baby teeth in about 15 days. When they are one month old, they can eat by themselves, so they can start weaning when the cat is one month old.
2. Use goat milk powder instead of breast milk
When weaning, you can feed the cats goat milk powder or milk cakes. The kitten milk cakes need to be soaked in warm water before giving them to the cats. Pay attention to feeding the cat in small amounts and multiple times to avoid the cat being unable to eat enough or indigestion, which will lead to hypoglycemia shock in the cat.
3. Slowly transition into soft-soaked kittens food
After two months, you can replace it with milk cake or kitten food to feed the cat. However, since the cat's digestive system has not yet developed and its stomach is relatively fragile, you cannot feed dry cat food directly. You must soak the cat food in warm water and then feed it. You can feed it 3 to 4 times a day. The feeding amount can be fed according to the recommended feeding amount on the cat food bag. When the cat is three months old, you can feed the kitten food directly to complete weaning.
Note: After the kitten is weaned, as the maternal antibody decreases, the immunity will also decrease, so the kitten can start vaccination at two months. It is best not to take a bath or go out before vaccination.
